Well the party was quite a success!  Absolutely seething with people, 750 in the end, I still can’t get over the numbers but it seemed to run like clockwork.  We weren’t lucky enough to win any of the raffle prizes but we still had a good time.  A got to meet some more of my colleagues and he met my boss for the first time, they got on like a house on fire, don’t know what they were talking about though, hope it wasn’t me!!

We entertained ourselves after dinner by playing Fusball, darts and air hockey in little groups, challenging each other, men against women, that kind of thing.  I’m very happy to report that the ladies creamed the menfolk in just about every game, it was absolutely hilarious!  The dancing was pretty cool to watch but we were too chicken to attempt it!

There were a few things that impressed A, having never worked for a Japanese company or having any large scale experience of their organisation skills.  Having 750 people sit down for dinner at the same time takes some doing; during the speeches it was announced that if anyone needed a ride home or had a bit too much to drink and shouldn’t be driving then the company would pay for a taxi for anyone who needed it, and finally, the Managing Director came to every table along with his wife, shook your hand and wished you a Happy Christmas.  He did a lot of handshaking that night!

It was a good night, I’m sure we’ll go next year.
