There’s a great sketch to work from over on the Simply Less Is More challenge this week, so great in fact, that I’m heading back to the craft room after typing this to make more with it! I also knew I wanted to work in red and white, in order to fit the Scandinavian type theme that the lovely Jingle Belles want to see this time round.
I made two very simple cards, this first one is the one for LIM as I moved the location of the horizontal strip on the sketch upwards slightly so it was more central for the second card.
So, the flourish is from a Scrappy Cat clear set and the sentiment is from a Martha Stewart clear set. In order to place the red strip in the lower third (just!) of the card I stamped the flourish twice towards the centre and lower left. This left a lot of white space at the top that wasn’t looking quite right but the addition of a few red gems fixed that, a couple more were added to the bottom for balance. The sentiment was embossed in white.
The second card uses the same flourish stamp but it’s more balanced vertically on the card, which meant that the red strip is dead central and not in the lower third, but it’s still very much inspired by LIM. The sentiment this time is The Paper Company Studio and it was embossed in white again. The little pearls either side of it are really white, not the creamy colour they appear to be on the screen!
And if you’re tired of seeing Christmas cards, well, sorry but with temps as low as -20C this last week and 5.5″ of fresh snow yesterday, I’m afraid I’m still rather in a Wintery mood! Although, my next card based on this sketch is definitely going to be brighter, zingier and more spring like!
