Hello lovely bloggers and welcome to another fun challenge at Sparkles. This month our wonderful team member, Caz, wants to see your creations featuring Santa/Father Christmas. I imagine most of you are now knee deep in Christmas card making so I don’t think that’s going to be a problem for you!
Marianne Design Company is once again generously sponsoring our challenge with a wonderful prize for the winner.
I went with traditional green colours for my card as Father Christmas was originally part of an old English Mid-Winter festival dressed in green, a sign of the returning Spring. Prior to around 1880 Christmas cards still depicted him in green. The red, becoming more popular in Victorian times, was fully cemented in our minds by the Coca Cola company in the 1930s. So a bit of history for you about my green card, although I did brighten it up with a touch of red!
I used a pre-scored side step card from Crafter’s Companion for my card base and covered it with a lovely foiled green and gold paper from a Recollections (Michael’s own brand) Christmas pad. The stamp of Father Christmas is from an Inkadinkado set called Christmas Words and it was stamped with ColorBox Silk Green and clear embossed. The sentiment is a beautiful stamp by Santa Rosa, one of the first Christmas sentiments I ever bought and I still love it. It was stamped with Versamark ink and gold embossed. All of the edges were edged with gold ink.
I used scraps of gold snowflake paper from Papermania to cut out the Memory Box Bristol Snowflake and Frosty Border, and to mat the sentiment panel. I added a few red gems and a pre-made shimmery poinsettia from Jolee’s to finish it off.
I hope you have time to join in with this month. This is the PENULTIMATE Sparkles Challenge for this year, can you believe that! And there’s also only one more challenge left over at Sparkles Christmas Challenge too! Better get your skates on!

Hi Brenda
This is a beautiful card and I love the green.
I have just finished my first pair of socks thanks to you and your blog. I love them and shall be knitting more.
I went to see the poppies at the Tower of. The London and they were just stunning, it was a very emotional moment. The quietness of the crowds was also very moving.
I only found your blog a few months ago and i am really enjoying it.
