I don’t usually start doing little sets of cards until nearer the big day, when I realise I’m running out of time for single, individual cards and switch to simpler designs I can turn out in three’s or five’s. But this year I want to have a few spare to send off to a friend in England who sells cards and homemade paper crafts to raise money for a local hospice that cared for her Mum in her last days. So I decided to start the production line a little earlier, this way, I should have enough cards to be able to send some to Clare too.
So, this first set uses this cute little deer stamp I got in Archivers earlier this year in their sale in January. It’s a wonderful clear set from Stampendous that comes with two cute deer, a number of ornamental antlers in varying sizes, a couple of decorations (a bauble on a string that you can hang from the antlers if you wish!) and a couple of sentiments. I thought it was a great set the second I clapped eyes on it, because you can make the deer whatever you want… whimsical, formal, elegant etc.
I made five cards in all, very quick and simple, production line style! The snowflake backing papers were a freebie from a UK magazine, I was given them when I was in England in May and have got a lot of use out of them. The odd one out uses a piece of DCWV paper. The inks are all Memento and the sentiment is from a Recollections clear set. Tiny gems and little bits of ribbon are the only embellishments. I think I prefer the ones with the snowflake paper, they look rather Scandinavian to me.
The photos are a little dull due to the dreich, drizzly day we have here, I had to take the pictures inside. But it’s a great excuse to stay indoors and play in the craft room! Especially as today is World Card Making Day! Truly, it is! So if you haven’t made any cards yet you better get your skates on! It’s also remained cool here so the oven is on roasting a chicken for our tea! The first roast dinner of the new cooler Fall season! Oh I do love my “gravy dinners”!!
I know Rudolph is supposed to have a red nose but this one’s got a purple one as red would have clashed with the paper and ribbon!

OK, card challenges I’m entering this one in:
Charisma Cardz Challenges want to see a Christmas project.
Daring Cardmakers also want to see a Christmas themed card, AND they’re highlighting World Card Making Day too.
And Stamp Something want us to show Something To Celebrate, so Christmas related would be fine as that’s a celebration.

Hi there. I’ve just popped over for a nosey after the lovely comments you left me on my WOYWW post. Your cake cricuit sounds very intriguing. You’d think the sugar paste would get stuck wouldn’t you.
Anyway, I’m absolutely delighted to have found you. Your work is beautiful. I shall be a frequent visitor from now on. I love these Christmas cards. Very simple like you say but perfect. How generous to make them for your friend. She’ll be delighted.
Hugs Lisax

These are lovely Brenda. I love that deer stamp.
I recently saw a show on Create and Craft with Barbara Gray of Clarity Stamps, and she did some of the folky art doodling on her reindeer that was very similar to the one you have here. It was really effective – all i can describe it as is like something you would find in IKEA!!! Worth checking out to create a different look to the deer.
Anyway, lovely set for a worthy cause; I’m sure Clare will be really chuffed.

Hi Brenda! Soooo pleased to see you joining in with The Daring Cardmakers’ WCMD challenge – I hope this is the first time of many – now you’re here you can have a go at our October birthstone one for this week too !
Your Christmas cards are absolutely lovely – looks like you’ve made a great start on them. This afternoon I’ve dug out my Christmas stuff boxes and am about to sort through and get rid of stuff I won’t be using – a sort of “easing myself in gently”

What is this about Christmas we’ve just come back from Italy where the subject was never raised and today at least three people have spoken to me about Christmas plus all the blog mentions I’ve read. Having said that, the cards are very lovely and for a great cause so I forgive you.
